How to Care for Your Nails Between Manicures
By Karin, BBK Nails
A fresh manicure is a lovely feeling—but caring for your nails continues after your appointment. A few simple habits at home can help keep your nails and the skin around them well cared for, whether you prefer gel, classic polish or a natural finish.
At BBK Nails, my approach centres on personal attention and careful technique. These are the everyday habits I encourage you to make part of your routine.
Keep hand cream close by
Apply moisturiser to your hands, nails and the surrounding skin, particularly after washing your hands. Keep a small tube beside the sink or on your bedside table so it’s easy to remember.
You don’t need an elaborate routine. A small, regular habit is more useful than an occasional pampering session. Dermatologists’ nail-care tips
Make cuticle oil a daily habit
A little cuticle oil each day helps keep your cuticles and the skin around your nails moisturised and supple. Gently massage a small amount around each nail—bedtime is an easy moment to make it part of your routine, whether you wear gel, classic polish or keep your nails natural.
Wear gloves for household chores
Washing dishes and cleaning can expose your hands to plenty of water and cleaning products. Protective gloves help reduce that exposure.
Think of them as part of your nail-care kit—just as useful as your favourite hand cream. Advice from the American Academy of Dermatology
Resist the temptation to pick off gel
When gel starts to lift or chip, it can be tempting to peel it away. Please leave it alone and arrange suitable removal rather than picking at it.
If you’re unsure what to do before your next appointment, get in touch. I would much rather help you plan the next step than have you struggle with removal at home. Gel manicure care guidance
Be gentle with your cuticles
The skin around your nails deserves care too. Avoid biting, picking or cutting your cuticles at home, and don’t forcefully push them back. They help protect the nail and surrounding skin.
Moisturising is a simple way to care for this area without turning your bathroom into a treatment room. Manicure and pedicure safety advice
Pay attention to how your nails feel
Your manicure should be something you enjoy. If you notice persistent pain, swelling or an unusual change in your nails, seek advice from a healthcare professional rather than covering it with another product. Nail-health guidance
You’re always welcome to tell me about any concerns before your appointment so we can discuss whether a cosmetic treatment is appropriate.
My approach at BBK Nails
For me, beautiful nails start with thoughtful care. I take time to understand your preferences and give preparation, application and removal the attention they deserve.
I work by hand and do not use electric files or nail drills in my treatments. Whether you choose a natural finish, classic polish or gel, the aim is a carefully considered treatment and a look you feel comfortable wearing.
